Medeiros, Manuel “POP” 92, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 25th surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the loving, Doris W. (Cornell) Medeiros, who sadly passed before him. He was the son of the late Carlos Amor i n and late Mary J. Lima, as well as, brother of the late John Medeiros, and the late Alice Bouvier. He was stepbrother to Charles Amorin and Joseph Amorin. He was the father of Roger Medeiros, Eloise Branch, Lois Izzi, and Elise Schwartz. Grandfather of Dawn Martins, Eloise Ricci, Kathy Palumbo, Robert Branch, the late Domenic A. Izzi, Jr., LoAnn Natale, Joseph Schwartz, John Schwartz, Jacqueline Jesus, and Jesse Schwartz. In addition, he had 27 Great-Grandchildren, who loved him dearly, as he loved them. Notably, it was his Great-Grandson, AJ -Anthony Ricci, who tirelessly and compassionately cared for him for the past 5 years. Born in Fall River, MA he resided in Providence, RI. He enlisted into The United States Navy at the age of 17 on April 29, 1942. He was stationed in at NTS, Newport, RI, Norfolk, VA, and New London, CT. He received The World War II Victory Medal, The American Theatre Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, and The Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal. While on the US Navy Vessel - USS Sierra (AD-18), he witnessed the aftermath of the destruction of Pearl Harbor. On February 27, 1946, he received an Honorable Discharge as Torpedoman's Mate, Second Class. He was proud to have served our country overseas and spoke often of his travel experiences there in China, the Philippines and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After working at The Medical Center- IMH in Cranston for 30 years, he was able to retire early at the age of 55. He was an earthy guy who enjoyed his gardening: digging in the dirt and planting in his yard . Many loved him, and will miss him. Funeral arrangements will be private as requested by his family. Arrangements are entrusted to the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home.
