Mezzini, Nicola “Nicholas” “Nickie”, 94 of North Providence, passed away peacefully at the Hope Hospice & Palliative Care on Wednesday, February 07, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Assunta “Susie” (Pocaro) Mezzini.
Born in Providence on October 23, 1923, he was the loving son of the late Pasquale and Consiglia (Paparella) Mezzini.
Nicholas served his country with the US Army in WWII from 1944-1945. He was stationed as PVT 1st class in Normandy, Northern France & Rhineland where he was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Eame Campaign with 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and a Purple Heart. He was also an active member of the VFW Post in North Providence and an avid NY Yankees fan. He will be missed by family & friends.
He is survived by nephews, John P. Mezzini & Nick Ferrante and nieces, Joan Razza and Celia Perrotti. He was the brother of the late Mario, Giovanni “Ben”, Cosmo “Sammy” and Florence Mezzini and Teresa Venditto.
Visiting hours will be Saturday, February 10th from 9-9:30am at the A.A. MARIANI & SON Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St., Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Ann Church, 280 Hawkins St., Providence. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St. Ann Memorial Society, 2 Russo St., Providence, RI 02904.
