Vilma C. Gagnon, age 86, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2017 at her home. She was the wife of the late Ernest E. Gagnon. They had been married for 53 years until his passing in 2011. Born and raised in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Consiglia Grelle. Vilma worked as the Administrative Coordinator in Academic Media Services at Providence College for 40 years until her retirement at the age of 82. She was a member and past treasurer of the Loggia Vittoria #585 of the Order of the Sons of Italy in America. She successfully completed the crossword puzzle in the Providence Journal every day. She was the mother of Denise Andrade and her husband George of North Providence, Robert J. Gagnon, MD and his wife Patricia Silvia, MD of Lakeville, MA and Joseph E. Gagnon and his wife Brenda (Horton) of Ashford, CT. She was a loving grammy to Melissa (Blinkhorn) Aldrich and her husband Tim, Amanda Blinkhorn, Jessica, Danielle, Rachel, Emily, Justin and Rosemary Gagnon and the great-grandmother of Dylan Aldrich. She was the sister of the late Anthony Grelle, Anna Brisson, Louise Colanduono, and Ida Grelle. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday May 3, 2017 at 9:15 AM from the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St. Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Pius V Church, 55 Elmhurst Ave. Providence. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 PM.
