Obituary

John E. Anzivino Sr., 81, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

He was married to the love of his life Paula (Altruda) Anzivino for 44 years until her death. 

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Frank and Adele (Zotti) and devoted brother of the late Frank Anzivino Jr.

He leaves behind his 4 loving children, Kerri Castelli and her husband Michael, Jacqueline Gaipo and her husband David, John Anzivino Jr. and his wife Malorie, and Christopher and his wife Lori and proud “Papa” of 13 grandchildren.

His joy was being with his family and friends. He continued to have lifelong friendships with high school, college and business colleagues.

After graduating from Mount Pleasant High School, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Providence College in 1963 and his Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Boston College in 1965. He was an active communicant of St. Anthony Church, North Providence for over 50 years where he served on various committees and assignments. He volunteered at the St. Edward’s Food and Wellness Center for 10 years.

He was employed at the RI Department of Human Services for 30 years and served in many capacities including Assistant Director. He later joined MAXIMUS in VA and he was appointed as Vice President and worked on a couple of significant projects as the Director during his 10 years with the company. He worked part time as a therapist with Governor Associates for 20 years and later maintained a small private practice. He was honorably discharged from the US Army Reserve as a Staff Sergeant. John was also a partner of RIA Associates that developed several Elderly Housing projects. He was a member of many organizations including the Italo American Club of RI where he served as President twice. 

His funeral will be held Tuesday, January 31st at 10am from the A.A. MARIANI & SON Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St. Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Anthony’s Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Edward’s Food & Wellness Center, 5 Gibbs St., North Providence, RI 02904.
