Americo Joseph Mancuso
1924 – 2018
Americo Joseph Mancuso, “Rico,” aged 94, a lifetime resident of Providence, passed away peacefully at about 4:00 o’clock on Sunday morning May 20. He was a devoted husband for 72 years to the late Maria (Villani) Mancuso and a loving father to their son, Bernard Patrick (Sonetto) Mancuso. He was born in Providence on March 19, 1924 to Michael and Grace (Merola) Mancuso, the second to the youngest of his family. Americo was the last surviving child of their nine children. His siblings were Kaye, Ralph, Joseph, Mary, Amelia, Dora, Carl, and Gloria.
Rico was a veteran of World War II in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He attended Central High School in Providence but earned his high school diploma as a Flight Reconnaisance Engineer during wartime. Mr. Mancuso had many trades in his life. He was an upholsterer-designer, a talented hairdresser and stylist; he was a most accomplished and creative craftsman; his creations always displayed the evidence of his own exquisite natural gifts. His beautiful work still decorates numerous family homes to this very day.
Mary and Rico were Commercial Travelers in the 50s and 60s. They danced and danced… and danced… while other participants cleared the floor to watch the gaze between “those two.”
Americo has three grandchildren, Bethany (Mancuso) Imbusch and husband Stephen, David J. Mancuso, and John Sonetto Mancuso. He has three great grandsons, Luke, Ciaran, and Sean Imbusch.
Rico was a very quiet man. He always displayed dignity and integrity to all who encountered him. Humility.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 22nd from 9-11am followed by a funeral home service at 11am. Entombment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
