Darrell Worthy

PROVIDENCE- Darrell Worthy, 62, of Providence, formerly of Gastonia, NC, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, surrounded by the love and comfort of his beloved family. He was the devoted and caring husband to the love of his life, Vivian Worthy, also of Providence.

Born on March 18, 1958, in Gastonia, North Carolina, he was one of ten children born to the late Miles Hamrick, Sr. and Susan (Worthy) Hamrick.

Darrell was raised and brought up in North Carolina.

A hardworking man who took satisfaction in a job well done, Darrell worked as a laborer in the construction field. He never turned down a job and he would work long days to provide for himself and his family.

In his spare time, Darrell had many hobbies and interests. He was a dedicated and proud Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed watching TV and movies, especially martial arts and action movies. He was well known for his beautiful smile that could light up a whole room and his trademark contagious laugh that would bring joy to all. He will be fondly remembered for his positive attitude towards life, even in times when most would be down, Darrell would find the positive in everything and make sure he spread that cheer to everyone in his life.

In addition to his wife, Darrell is survived by his proud children: Krystal Elliot, Marie Young, Darrell Berry, Ayesha Thompson, Jerome R. Thompson, Laquan Thompson, Anthony Thompson, and Tizziana Thompson; his 11 beautiful grandchildren; his adored siblings: Sheila Worthy, Regina Archibald, Amos Hamrick, Sr., Jeffrey Hamrick, the late Cynthia Hamrick, Veronica Kilgore, Miles Hamrick, III, and Sophia Hamrick; his mother-in-law: Pauline Thompson; and also 11 sister and brother-in law’s, and countless nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Darrell’s visitation on Friday, June 19, 2020, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at A.A. MARIANI AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, RI 02904. In accordance with RI Health Department mandates, 25 PEOPLE MAX MAY BE IN THE BUILDING AT ALL TIMES, FUNERAL HOME STAFF WILL BE PRESENT TO ASSIST.

Darrell’s funeral service and burial will be held privately.
