Obituary

PROVIDENCE- Donald A. Beauchemin, 77, of Providence, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020, at Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was the devoted husband for 51 wonderful years to the love of his life, M. Joan (Gruca) Beauchemin.

Born on July 16, 1943, in Providence, he was the oldest of three children born to the late Albert A. and Gertrude R. (Hunt) Beauchemin.

Donald grew up in Providence and briefly attended La Salle Academy, before transferring to Hope High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1961. Following high school, he attended and received his bachelor’s degree from Roger Williams University.

A hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family, Donald worked in various jobs throughout his working career. He was employed by the State of Rhode Island, as an Engineer for the Department of Environmental Management. During his 35-year career with the state, Donald designed elements of Colt State Park and Lincoln Woods State Park amongst other projects. He also was the owner and operator of his contracting business, Beauchemin Construction, and he also delivered the Sunday edition of the Providence Journal for many years.

Donald enjoyed being active in his community. He was a founding member of the Summit Neighborhood Association, Union Representative in Council 94, and he was also an accomplished and distinguished Eagle Scout.

In his spare time, Donald enjoyed working around the house and tinkering with DIY projects. He was a major sports fan, predominantly the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and attended the Hartford Open. He liked to take trips up North to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Above all, Donald was most happy when he was in the presence of and making memories with his treasured family.

In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his cherished son, Christopher Beauchemin and his wife, Marisa; his two grandchildren, Lucas and Molly; his sister, Mary Ann Beauchemin and her husband Gary Gray; his niece and nephew Caitlyn and Evan Gray; and his god children, Allison Calnan, AJ Christoff, Jill Melissa Gruca, and Tracey Arnold.

In addition to his parents, Donald is predeceased by his brother, Paul Beauchemin.

Due to the current pandemic, Donald’s funeral services will be held privately.
