Eleanor (Ferreira) Silvia, 88, of Kennesaw, GA peacefully transitioned on March 27, 2022 surrounded by family and much love.
Eleanor (Elly) was born on October 2, 1933 to John and Laura (Jardin) Ferreira in Brooklyn, NY, who predeceased her. Eleanor was also predeceased by her late husband, Henry M. Silvia, Sr., with whom she resided in Providence, RI for many years, prior to moving to Kennesaw, GA in 2005.
Eleanor is survived by her five children: Laura Hamel (& David) of AZ, Ann Short (& Wayne) of GA, Doreen Silvestro (& Shakib) of FL, Henry Silvia, Jr. of GA, and Eleanor Kennedy of RI. Eleanor also leaves behind her sister, Irene Simon of GA, and five grandchildren: Liana Hamel of RI, David Hamel, Jr. (& Sandra) of NM, Kyndra DiCarlo (& Anthony) of VA, Richard Silvestro (& Sara) of FL, and Kristofor Short of GA; as well as, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Eleanor attended Erasmus Hall High School prior to her employment at Federal Engineering, where she was a Biller. She later went on to work in Personnel for the Department of Health in New York City.
Throughout the years, Eleanor’s children enjoyed hearing stories of her long-distance courtship with their dad, Henry Silvia, Sr., of Fall River, MA, who subsequently became her husband of 32 years, prior to his passing in 1988. Although Eleanor eventually left New York to build a life with Henry in Rhode Island, her time spent in the City always held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed taking trips back to New York with her children, and sharing stories of her life there, including visiting the World’s Fair.
A loving homemaker, Eleanor was passionate about baking, and preparing meals for extended family and friends; most especially over the holidays and on special occasions. Over the years, Eleanor could be found volunteering at her children’s schools, tending to her flower garden, sewing garments for herself and her children and, bargain shopping, often happily sharing her ‘special finds’ with family. Eleanor re-entered the work place as a Marketing Demonstrator after raising her children and, thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the public through her work.
A private service to pay tribute to Eleanor’s life will be held amidst her loving family on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, prior to Eleanor joining her late husband Henry at their final resting place at Saint Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket, RI.
