Mrs Frances Sgro

Frances Sgro, 89, of Providence, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving daughters Wednesday March 6th.  She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Sgro.

Born San Pier, Niceta Messena, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Nunzio and Maria (Nastasi) Micale.

Mrs. Sgro was a hairdresser for 40 years at the Supreme beauty salon.  She was a member of the daughters of Isabella, a lifelong member of St Ann Church, serving on the Reunion and Carnival Committees. Frances was a caregiver for her family, taking care of her father-in-law, mother and father, and her grandchildren.  She enjoyed quilting and left many heirlooms to family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Sara M, Sgro and Maryann Karcher (John Jones); two granddaughters, Sara Thompson (Andrew) and Danielle Karcher (Josh Lewis); and two brothers, Frank Micale (the late Elaine Micale) and Salvatore Micale (Dolores)

Her funeral will be 9:00 am Saturday, March 9th from the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Ann Church, 280 Hawkins Street, Providence.  Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.  Visiting hours are Friday, 4:00 – 7:00 pm.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Ann Church, 2 Russo Street, Providence, RI 02904, or to Hope Health Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
