Obituary

PROVIDENCE- Gregory S. Coupe, 57, of Providence, Illinois, and formerly of Heidelberg, Germany and San Diego, CA, was reunited with his mother in Heaven and passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at Rhode Island Hospital, surrounded by some of those closest to him. He was the dedicated and dear son to the late Lucille (DiManni) Coupe, who passed away May 3, 2020.

Greg was born on September 26, 1962 in Providence. He attended LaSalle Academy, before moving to the suburbs of Chicago, where he graduated from Hinsdale South High School. He furthered his education by completing his Bachelor’s Degree at New England Tech.

A proud and patriotic man, Greg was a veteran of the United States Army. He served from 1984 until his honorable discharge in 1986; he was primarily stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. He achieved the rank of SP4 and his primary duty in the military was being a radio operator. During his time in the service, Greg was respectfully awarded the Army Achievement Medal, while also receiving the Army Good Conduct Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Marksman Bade (M-16); and the Sharp Shooter Badge (Hand Grenade).

Greg was a man of deep faith, who was a devout and practicing Baptist. He had a strong admiration for Dr. Charles Stanley, of In Touch Ministries, whom he donated to and followed avidly.

In his spare time, Greg was a passionate guitar player and loved listening to his favorite band, Rush, which he was a lifelong fan of. He was a movie buff, fantastic cook, and avid fisherman.

Greg is survived by his loyal brother Kenneth Coupe and his wife Shelly and his 2 nephews, Dylan & Joshua; his (brother in Christ) and Cousin Russ Anthony DiManni; his Uncle Louis & Auntie Angela DiManni and son/cousin Kevin; his Uncle Anthony & Auntie Arlene DiManni and daughters/cousins Julie & Tracy; his Cousin Paul Alviti. He also leaves behind his Mentor and friend Bob Angell, Julie Heintz, Kevin & Amy Morin, Louis (Louie) Santos, Ashley Boucher, Betty Bonebrake & son Michael from Illinois.

In addition to his mother, Greg is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Luigi & Pauline (Buccini) DiManni, whom he loved dearly.

A service in memory of Greg will be held privately at A.A. Mariani and Son Funeral Home. A livestream of the service will be available. Burial at RI Veterans Cemetery will be held privately.
