James R. “Jim” Galligan, 75, of North Providence and Deerfield Beach, Florida, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband to the love of his life, Susan (Rainone) Galligan.
Born on January 22, 1945, in Boston, Jim was the son of the late James H. and Isabelle (Fontes) Galligan.
A hardworking man, Jim was employed as a chief mechanic on oil rigs throughout the world. His job took him to destinations such as Alaska, Australia, Egypt, Ireland, Malta, and many more countries and territories. He was highly regarded by his co-workers for his great work ethic and skillful mechanical abilities.
In his spare time, Jim was an avid antique collector and car enthusiast. He, along with his wife, owned and operated an antique shop, Galligan’s Antiques & Refinishing in Centerdale, for many years. His passion for antiques brought him and his wife on many trips and adventures, which included attending antique expos all throughout the US. Jim took great pride in possessing the talent of being able to restore and refinish antiques, especially furniture.
Jim also liked to spend time with his wife at their condo in Deerfield Beach, Florida, where he and Susan enjoyed the warm weather and socializing with their friends. Above all, Jim was most happy when he was in the presence of, and making memories with, his treasured family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his cherished children, Kevin Galligan and his wife Jennifer of North Providence and Kristie Galligan of Clinton, MA; his grandsons, Nicholas and Nolan Galligan of North Providence and Aiden Galligan of Clinton, MA; his nephew, Nicholas Rainone of Smithfield; his brother-in-law, Kevin Rainone and his wife Wendy of Smithfield; and also many extended family members and friends.
Due to the COVID-19 virus and directive of state officials, Jim’s funeral services and internment at St. Ann’s Cemetery will be held privately.
