James V. Peluso, Sr.

Obituary

James V. Peluso Sr., 94 of North Providence, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 26, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (DiLenardo) Peluso. They were happily married for 65years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Onofrio (James) and Antonetta (Campopiano) Peluso.

Mr. Peluso worked as a lineman for Narragansett Electric for many years before retiring.

He was an Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.

James played baseball, football and basketball for Central High School and was a 1947 graduate. He was an avid Yankee's fan and enjoyed being a-baseball umpire and officiating football and basketball games. During his 50-year football and baseball officiating career, he was proud to receive several awards.

James took care of his family as a young boy after losing his father at 11 years old and instilled those values within his children and grandchildren to always help your family.

Above all else, James loved being surrounded by his family.  He was always willing to talk sports to anyone especially his beloved Yankee's.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving children, James V. Peluso Jr. and his companion, Karen Macari, Linda Rotondo and her husband Angelo, Thomas and Michael Peluso and a devoted sister, Genevieve Costabile. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, James and Rebecca Peluso, Matthew and Katie Peluso, Lesley and Ralph Ruggiano and Michael Rotondo as well as 8 dear great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Dolores Edwards.

His funeral will beheld on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 8:45am from the A.A. MARIANI & SON Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Augustine's Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: RI Football Foundation, 28 Cedar Ridge Lane, West Greenwich RI 02817.
