John A. Matteo, 92, of Johnston, passed away Wednesday, May 17th. He was the beloved husband of Ilda (Bellucci) Matteo.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Charles and Rose (Prete) Matteo.
He was a Tailor for many years at Matteo Tailors. Mr. Matteo was a Korean Conflict Era Veteran, serving honorably in the United States Army. He also was a member of the Bouffard Council Knights of Columbus and the Italian–American War Veterans Post 8. He was a fan of the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, and enjoyed going to Car Shows.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John C. Matteo and Joseph A. Matteo and his wife Paula; three grandchildren, Jaclyn, Joseph, and John Matteo; a brother, Charles B. Matteo; and a sister, Rosemarie Pearson. He was predeceased by a son, James F. Matteo.
Visiting hours will be Friday, May 26th at the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, from 9:00 am – 10:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Ann Church, 280 Hawkins Street, Providence. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
