Lucrezia Cataldo “Rose” 102, formerly of Smithfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2021 surrounded by her granddaughter Leslie Robin Lembo, her daughter Ann Marie and her husband Mike and great grandchildren John and Blu. They had taken tremendous care of her in the later years of her life. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph T. Cataldo and loving mother of the late Jackie Golding.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Sabatino and Caterina “Catherine” (Martino) DeToro.
Rose had great faith and always tried to instill that in her family. She was a kind and compassionate person, always a smile on her face. Rose and her husband Joe ran Cataldo’sEsmond Shop for many years. People from town could always stop in to eat, buy their paper, cigarettes, groceries and candy. The Esmond Shop was later turned into Esmond Liquor, which Joe and Rose ran until Joe’s death in October 1997.
She is survived by her loving children, Ann Marie Lembo and her husband Mike, Joseph Cataldo and his wife Connie and Lisa Leveilleand her husband Richard. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Leslie Robin Lembo, Michael Lembo and his wife Toni, Michele Litwin, Joe Cataldo and his wife Alicia, Nicole Nexon and her husband Mike and Sarah Pinelli and her husband Brian; dear great-grandchildren, Samantha, Blu, John, Corey, Cameron, Ethan, Ella, Matthew, Zoe, Sasha, Aaron, Matthew and Justin and precious great-great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary, Inara, Vincent, Aubrey, Caiden, Alex, Malonie Rose, Mikhayla and Henry.
Rose was the sister of the late Lena Palazzo, Fred and Arthur DeToro, Margaret Cucca and Ida Pennine.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, February 16th at 10am at St. Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike. Smithfield. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose’s memory may be made to, Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
