Macon Lawrence Jr.
September 28, 1934 ~ January 27, 2024 (age 89) 89 Years Old
Macon Lawrence Jr., 89, of Providence, passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with illness. He obtained his victory on January 27, 2024 at Hope Hospice with his daughters at his side.
Mr. Lawrence was born to the late Macon Lawrence Sr. and Rosa Ragland Lawrence in Wake Forrest NC. He was one of six children born to this union. The family relocated to Providence, RI when he was very young and he has spent his life here.
He was educated in the Providence School System and graduated from Central High School in 1953. He obtained an Associates Degree in Business Management from Johnson and Wales University (College)
Mr. Lawrence enlisted in the United States Air Force and served twenty years, as a Staff Sargent until he retired from the military.
Upon retirement from the Air force and after completing his degree, Mr. Lawrence worked for Electric Boat for 19 years. His final retirement was from Electric Boat.
Mr. Lawrence was a adamant and proud member of the American Legion Post 69, Armstrong-Gladding for Life. He enjoyed fishing and working on cars. He loved football and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawrence is predeceased by all of his siblings.
Left to cherish his memories are 3 sons Terrence Lawrence, of Dublin GA, Rodney Morrow, of SC, Malcolm Lawrence of Providence RI, : 2 daughters; Leita Adeyemi of Providence RI and Melanie Lawrence of Providence, RI, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and extended family who mourn the loss but are happy to have had the opportunity to share life with him.
Visiting hours will be at the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, Friday February 2nd, from 11:00 am - 12:00 Noon. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 Noon. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
