Maria Santangelo

Maria Santangelo, 102, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 9th. She was the beloved wife of the late Renato Santangelo.

Born in Portici, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Gennaro and Antonietta (Faiella) Calafiore.

Maria came to Providence from Italy to visit her sister Teresa. During her extended stay she met Renato, who would become her husband of 44 years until his passing in 2005.

Mrs. Santangelo enjoyed cooking and gardening, but her greatest joy was spending time with family.

She is survived by a son, Steven Santangelo and his wife Meredith; a grandson, Nicholas Santangelo and his wife Samantha, a sister Teresa Linardo and her children Lauretta and Peter; and many other nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anna Monte, Pietro Calafiore and Pasquale Calafiore.

Visiting hours will be at the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, Saturday September 16th from 9:00 am -10:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Edward Church, 997 Branch Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
