Mary J. Herbert (LaVigne) 68, of Providence, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, Providence.
She was the companion for many years to Philip J. Iannazzo.
Born in Dayville, CT., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (McCartney) LaVigne.
Mary was a waitress for many years at various restaurants. She later became certified in mental health direct care services for children with disabilities in 1985. She also accomplished becoming a Christian Evangelist through the Restoration Church of God in Christ in 1996 and proceeded to write her first book ”In A Blaze of Glory” written from her memoirs in appreciation of the power of Jesus Christ to deliver us from life’s mistakes, struggles and pains. She was always full of life and smiling even through the hardest of times and enjoyed music, writing poetry, and drawing as well.
Besides her companion, she is survived by her loving children, Jessica Herbert, Mauria Pombo and Glenn Sermos and wife Filippa and stepdaughters, Jillian, Cynthia, and Victoria. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Michael D. Leavitt, James M. Pombo Jr, Sheyvon Pombo, Christian Sermos, Alexander Sermos, and Dmitry Sermos and great grandchildren Michael J. Leavitt, Samyra Pombo and Alani Pombo. Sister of Yvonne Plantier, Rita Nowakowski, Mike LaVigne and John LaVigne. She was the sister of the late Cheryl Ann, James Brian, Joseph E. LaVigne Jr. and Sandra Lee Smith.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, June 10th from 9-11am followed by a Service at 11am at the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence. Burial will be private.
