Mary D. Reilly, 89, of North Providence passed away Tuesday, March 16. She was the beloved wife of the late James P. Reilly.
Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Mary (Mello) DiMarcantonio. She was a graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1951.
During the Polio Epidemic, Mrs. Reilly was the Head Nurse of the Pediatric Unit at the Charles V. Chapin Hospital (the Communicable Disease Hospital). Later she became Supervisor of the children’s ward.
After her nursing career, she was employed at Shore’s Market for many years, retiring in 1987, to help care for her family. For 10 years, she served as the head of religious programs at St. Anthony’s Church, Pawtucket, and was also the Chairperson for the social committee, running many dances with live music. In her spare time she took painting lessons for 5 years, making many beautiful pieces of art for her family.
She is survived by a daughter JoAnn Calabro and her husband Joseph of Lincoln; a son James Reilly and his partner Bridget White of North Kingstown; a brother Vincent Marcantonio and his wife Maureen of North Smithfield; three grandchildren, Joseph, John, and Nicholas Calabro; nephews, Vincent Marcantonio and his wife Nancy, John Marcantonio and his wife Shelly; a niece Sherri Marcantonio; as well as many grand-nieces and nephews
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am Monday at St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours are at the A.A. MARIANI & SON Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, Sunday, 2 -5 pm.
