Mercedes Peguero, 89, of Providence, passed away Sunday May 1st, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved companion of Livio Bentancourt.
Born in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, she was a daughter of the late Anazario and Angelica (Hernandez) Peguero. Mercedes was the matriarch of her family. She will be remembered as a very generous person and tremendous caregiver to her immediate and extended family. Her faith in God helped her to raise her children under profound family values. She lives her legacy of hard work and perseverance to all the people she touched.
In addition to her companion, she is survived by four children, Milagros Piccini, Grace Diaz, Pedro Peguero, and Carmen Betancourt; a sister Dolores Peguero of the Dominican Republic; 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
A service of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Friday at Iglesia Vision Evangelica Church, 1014 Broad Street, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston. Visiting hours are at the A.A. Mariani & Son Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence, Thursday, 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
