Michael Terry Barber “Unc”, 59, passed away unexpectedly at home with his wife by his side on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. Born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in North Carolina, he was the first born son of the late John Henry Clark. He was a longtime resident of Providence, R.I. and worked for the City of Providence for 20 years.
Mike was a great, fun loving person who loved his wife, family and friends. He had a love for basketball and was known as a basketball legend. He was a great mentor, coach and inspiration to many and was always willing to go above and beyond to help youth in the inner city.
He is survived by his mother, Sarah Barber Clark; his wife of 35 years, Cynthia Barber; His children: Shanita Lassiter & Mark (Duda) Alexander; two God children, Josh Odugbela and Joseph DeCosta and his beloved grandchildren: Shanesse, Londyn & Michael. He was the brother of Rickey Clark, Inesse Riggins (Milton), Dorothy Clark, whom all reside in Providence, R.I. and Inetta Freeman (Earl) of North Carolina. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his dog “King” who held a special place in his heart.
Mike had a big heart and such a beautiful soul. His contagious energy touched the lives of so many. His presence will be greatly missed, but he will always remain in our hearts.
Visiting hours will be held Friday from 9:00 am – 10:30 am with funeral services immediately following at the MARIANI & SON Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins St., Providence. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, 1569 Broad Street, Cranston, RI.
