Raymond D. D’Abate, Jr. 74, of North Providence, passed away Friday April 29th.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Raymond D., Sr. and Anna Maria (DeSimone) D’Abate.
Mr. D’Abate held various positions with the City of Providence and later in life enjoyed working at the Sal Mancini Senior Center.
An avid athlete growing up, Ray played baseball for La Salle Academy and Providence College. He was a huge New York Yankees fan and enjoyed watching the New York Giants and New England Patriots. Outside of sports, one of his greatest joys was delivering presents on the Gingerbread Express at the William D’Abate School, during the Christmas season.
He had a great love for family and treasured the time he spent with them, even his distant relatives in Salerno, Italy.
He is survived by his companion of the last 16 years, Helen Dube and family; a daughter, Ginamaria D’Abate (Brian Clark); as well as many treasured cousins, devoted friends and nephew Michael D’Abate. Ray had a very special place in his heart for Donald Solomon, Jr., who he considered a son. He was predeceased by a brother, Eugene D’Abate.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Thursday at St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Avenue, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. The family encourages face masks and social distancing.
